Whether you are doing yoga, HIIT, running, or swimming, you should never skip a warmup. Not only does warming up help your body, but it protects your bones, kick starts your central nervous system and boosts your performance. Even if you have a short timeframe to exercise, you should always warm up your muscles to prevent injury. I think I will probably always do jumping jacks throughout the song but (depending on the song) maybe switch to pullups or box jumps on the keyword.The most common reason for exercise injuries is due to the lack of a proper warm-up or stretch. It's a challenge to find a movement other than jumping jacks that is easy enough to do a LOT of in a three to four minute song though. Of course, the movements can be changed to something other than jacks and burpees. The fun of this has come from (a) finding a new song each time to do it to, (b) finding songs that are either really fun (Roxanne was a blast) or really annoying, and (c) doing it to songs that everyone doesn't necessarily know, and so the group has to pay extra attention to listen and react. Never Gonna Give You Up burpee on Never Gonna (yes, THAT "Never Gonna Give You Up." wfs but disgusting) The format so far has been : do jumping jacks through the course of the song, but every time that a certain keyword / phrase is said, do a burpee. ![]() I have been having fun with doing warmups / buy-ins along with a song. ![]()
